Being a brand on social media is a journey. Here’s some prep you can do to make sure you wind up in the right place and don’t get lost in the weeds.
1. Set your goal
What do you want to have happen and why? Are you looking for leads, more website traffic, more brand recognition or something else? This is a “one fight at a time” situation. You can’t achieve everything all at once, even if you have super deep pockets. Pick the goal that’s going to make the most difference to your business.
2. Get your analytics in place
Without some kind of analytics, you’ll have no way of knowing if you’re achieving your goal. You could be getting stacks of likes, but nobody is clicking through to your website. Or you could be generating epic engagement with people who will never buy your product. If your goal is website traffic, Google Analytics is key. For other goals, platforms like Meta provide really good dashboards. Or you can choose a social listening tool, like Meltwater.
3. Establish a way to capture emails
Social platforms change all the time. Don’t be like the people who built a huge Twitter following only to see them disappear once it turned into a maga republican boys club. By capturing emails, you can maintain your audience and even move them to other platforms. Best way to do this is give people something for sharing their email - product discount, a whitepaper, music, toys, whatever they’re into. And yes, we all hate those pop ups that on sites that ask for your email, but they’re really effective.
4. Create a content calendar
Determine how many times you need to post or run ads (we can help you do that) put together a one-month calendar. This will help you set times and budgets for content creation. Be on the lookout for posting on days where there is a holiday that could create clutter or a cultural moment that could be disrespected by saying the wrong thing.
